Winifred

Winifred is an English form associated with Welsh Gwenfrewi, the name of a Welsh saint. Its traditional interpretation combines an idea of being blessed or fair with reconciliation or peacemaking. The name's longer history is distinct from the modern impression created by its familiar nickname Winnie.

Winnie, Fred, and Freddie provide several quite different everyday options. Winifred Foster is the central young character in Tuck Everlasting, while other fictional bearers appear in Mary Poppins and Hocus Pocus. Parents may choose Winifred for a family or Welsh connection while using whichever short form they prefer. The full name's three-syllable rhythm also works independently, without requiring a nickname at every stage of life.
