Yahia

Yahia is a way of writing the Arabic name Yahya in Latin letters. In Islamic tradition, Yahya is the prophet known in Christian tradition as John the Baptist. The Arabic name is commonly associated with a root concerning life or living, though its relationship to the Hebrew John family is a religious identification rather than a simple shared word meaning.

The Quranic account places Yahya within the family of the prophet Zakariya. That gives Yahia a specific religious narrative and helps explain its use across Muslim communities speaking different languages. Yahya is another familiar spelling, while Yahia makes a vowel sequence visible in a way some families prefer for their own records.
