Ziaire

Ziaire is a modern spelling related to Zaire, an older name for the Congo River and the former name of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Zaire came through Portuguese from a Kongo word associated with the river. That geographical background gives the name a connection with Central Africa that is more specific than a general water image.

The Ziaire spelling changes the arrangement of the letters while retaining the intended relationship with Zaire. For a family considering it, the river, a personal connection with the region, or an inherited name may be the central reason for the choice. Zaire provides the historical place-name reference, while Ziaire represents a later adaptation used as a personal name.
