Ariadne

Ariadne is a Greek mythological name traditionally interpreted as most holy. In the familiar story, she is the daughter of King Minos of Crete and helps Theseus escape the labyrinth by giving him a thread to follow. The image of Ariadne’s thread has since become a wider metaphor for finding a way through a complicated problem.

Her story continues in different ancient versions, including a connection with Dionysus, so it has supplied material for art, opera, and literature over many centuries. Ari is an easy shorter form, while Ariadna is a related form used in several European languages. The full name preserves a distinctive Greek shape and a specific mythological narrative rather than only a general association with antiquity.
