Bridgette

Bridgette belongs to the Bridget family, which traces back to the Irish name Brighid and a root associated with being high or exalted. The added ending gives this spelling a longer appearance while retaining the central sound of Bridget. Brigitte is a related continental European form, but each spelling has its own pattern of use.

The wider name family reaches into both Irish mythology and Christian history. Brigid is the name of a goddess in Irish tradition and of the saint associated with Kildare. Those connections have helped the name travel well beyond Ireland, giving Bridgette a combination of Irish heritage, an established personal-name history, and a spelling with a distinctly elaborate finish.
