Enrico

Enrico is an Italian member of the Henry family. Behind its Italian spelling is an older Germanic name combining the ideas of home and ruler. It shares that background with German Heinrich, while Arrigo is another Italian form. The connection is easy to miss because the first letters and endings have changed between languages.

Rico is an established shorter form, giving Enrico a compact everyday option without leaving its name family. The Italian physicist Enrico Fermi supplies a well-known scientific association. Enrico can consequently carry both an Italian family connection and an international historical reference, with a full form that remains distinct from the more familiar English Henry.
