Hollis

Hollis is an English surname associated with living near holly trees. That landscape origin gives it a direct botanical connection, even though its surname shape is different from the simple plant name Holly. The meaning describes a place associated with holly rather than a particular quality or occupation of the person bearing the name.

Hollis has two syllables and an s ending that distinguishes it from Holly. Holly can still serve as a family nickname if wanted, while the full form works without shortening. Ellis offers a similar sound with a different history. Parents considering Hollis can weigh its woodland meaning alongside any inherited surname connection that gives it personal significance.
