Janette

Janette is an English form in the Janet and Jane family. That line ultimately reaches Hebrew Yochanan, understood as God is gracious, through the much larger John family of names. The ending -ette gives Janette the appearance of a diminutive, but it is established as a complete given name rather than requiring a longer formal version.

Janet, Janetta, and Jannette provide close alternatives, while Jan and Netta are familiar short forms. This makes Janette useful for a family wishing to honor a Jane or Janet while preserving a slightly different spelling. It has also belonged to earlier generations of English-speaking families, giving it a recognizable inherited quality. The final -ette can influence how speakers naturally pronounce it, so individual family pronunciation may be more helpful than assuming every bearer says it identically.
