Jetson

Jetson is best known as the surname of the futuristic family in The Jetsons. As a given name it therefore has an immediate animation and science-fiction association. A proposed surname connection with Judson also appears in name histories, but that route is uncertain and should not be used to assign a definite ancient meaning.

Jet is an obvious short form that links the longer name with a familiar modern word. The son ending gives Jetson a patronymic appearance, although that alone does not prove a historical meaning of “son of Jet.” Families may choose it for the cartoon, for its surname shape, or for the nickname. Those modern motivations can be explained without inventing a secure linguistic origin.
