Jet

Jet has more than one route into first-name use. In English it can refer to the deep-black material used in jewelry, or evoke a jet aircraft and its speed. Those everyday meanings come from different word histories. In Dutch, Jet can instead be a familiar form of longer names such as Henriette or Mariette, without any gemstone or aviation meaning intended.

Jett is a related English spelling, while Jette belongs to the wider family of short forms in northern European naming. The compact three-letter form is already complete in everyday use. Its meaning is best explained through the family’s chosen tradition, rather than by combining an aircraft, a mineral, and a longer personal name into one translation.
