Keely

Keely comes through an Irish surname associated with Ó Caolaidhe, a family name built from the personal name Caoladhe. Its root is caol, meaning slender. That explains the familiar translation while also showing that the given name reached English through a surname, rather than being simply an Irish adjective used unchanged.

Keeley is a closely related spelling. Keely's two-syllable form may look similar to Kelly, Kylie, or Kaylie, but resemblance alone does not make those names part of the same linguistic family. For parents choosing Keely to honor Irish ancestry, the surname connection offers a more precise story than grouping it with every name that shares its beginning and ending.
