Kristina

Kristina is a form of Christina used in several European languages, including Scandinavian and Slavic traditions. It ultimately comes from Latin Christianus, meaning Christian or follower of Christ. The deeper title Christ comes from Greek vocabulary for anointing, but a Christian is the more direct meaning of the personal name.

Queen Christina of Sweden, whose name is written Kristina in Swedish, gives the spelling a royal and historical association. The k reflects a conventional language form rather than a recent decorative change to Christina. Kris and Kristy are familiar short forms, although many bearers use Kristina in full. Its broad European history makes it useful for families seeking a recognizable name across more than one language.
