Lenny

Lenny is an established short form of Leonard, a name commonly interpreted as “brave lion.” It can also be borrowed from other longer names, including names used for girls, so that interpretation belongs specifically to the Leonard connection. A Lenny honoring a different name may have a different linguistic story.

Lennie is the closest spelling alternative, and Len makes an even shorter option. Lenny can be the official given name or the familiar form used alongside Leonard. That choice affects how much of the older name is visible on paper. Comparing the short form with the intended longer relative is more helpful than assuming all names beginning with Len share the same root.
