Liana

Liana is an English botanical word for a woody climbing vine, borrowed through French. As a personal name, it can also be a short form of names ending in liana, such as Juliana or Liliana. Those longer names have their own origins, so not every Liana is a direct nature name.

Lia is a possible shortening, and Liane is a related written form for families comparing sounds. A household choosing Liana for a longer family name can explain that connection separately from the vine. The full form remains concise enough to use independently without a formal expansion.
