Lindy

Lindy can be a familiar form of several names, including Linda, Melinda, Belinda, and Rosalind. Its meaning consequently depends on the longer name a family has in mind. A single translation such as “pretty one” or “serpent” cannot reliably describe every Lindy, especially when it is chosen independently as a full name.

The Lindy Hop dance adds a cultural association connected with aviator Charles Lindbergh. That is a different route from a nickname for Linda, even though the resulting sound is the same. Lindy’s history therefore includes both personal-name shortenings and a recognizable dance-era reference, allowing a family to explain the connection that actually matters to it.
