Linnea

Linnea is associated with the twinflower and the botanical name Linnaea, honoring the Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus. The connection gives it both a flower story and a link with the history of natural science. A lime-tree association belongs further back in the surname's history rather than being the simplest definition of the given name.

Linnéa preserves the accented Swedish form, while Linnaea makes the botanical spelling especially visible. Linn and Nea are shorter forms. The children's book Linnea in Monet's Garden adds a separate artistic association. A family may therefore choose Linnea for plants, Scandinavian heritage, or a favorite book without treating those different connections as competing meanings.
