Macey

Macey is a form of Macy, a name that came through an English surname associated with places called Massy in France. Those place names have been connected with an older personal name, Maccius. That history is more specific than the simple “hill” meaning sometimes assigned to Macey, which should not be treated as certain.

Macy and Macie are the closest spelling comparisons. Actresses Macey Cruthird and Macey Chipping are examples of this particular written form. The name may resemble Maisy, but a similar sound does not make their origins identical. Macey’s surname and place-name background can stand on its own without requiring it to be a nickname for another given name.
