Maci

Maci is a modern spelling of Macy, a name that moved from a surname into first-name use. Macy is associated with the French place name Massy, so its meaning is usually expressed as “from Massy.” That is a geographical explanation of the surname rather than a description of a person’s character or appearance.

The final i changes the written style while usually leaving the familiar two-syllable sound intact. Macie provides another spelling of that sound, while Macy also carries the visible association with the American department store. Maci Bookout, known from television, helped make this particular spelling familiar to a wider audience. The name’s surname background predates that modern association.
