Maisie

Maisie is a Scottish affectionate form associated with Margaret and its Gaelic form Mairead. Through that name family it carries the meaning “pearl.” It can be used as the full first name rather than remaining a nickname, so parents do not need to choose Margaret unless they prefer that formal arrangement.

Henry James used Maisie in the title What Maisie Knew, while actress Maisie Williams provides a modern bearer. The spelling Maisy is also familiar from children’s books. Maizie offers another variation, usually with the same English sound. These literary and personal associations are separate from the name’s older meaning, and can give a family additional reasons for choosing it.
