Maizie

Maizie is a modern spelling of Maisie, a familiar Scottish form associated with Mairead and Margaret. Through Margaret, the name connects with the Greek word for a pearl. The z makes the usual middle sound particularly visible, but it does not create a separate root or make the name derive from maize, the crop.

Mai is a possible short form, though Maizie already has a concise two-syllable shape. Maisie and Maisy offer the closest spelling comparisons. Parents attracted to the resemblance to maize can enjoy it as a personal association, while families honoring a Margaret can preserve that older connection without using the full formal name.
