Mayson

Mayson is a spelling of Mason, an English occupational surname for someone who worked with stone. The older word names a craft, giving the first name a practical history beneath its modern surname style. The inserted y changes the written appearance while keeping the recognizable Mason sound and meaning.

The name has been used for both boys and girls, and the spelling itself does not create a different occupation or family origin. A family carrying a Mason surname may choose Mayson as a personal variation, while another may prefer the more direct spelling Mason. Comparing the two on the page helps make that distinction clear when the spoken name will usually sound the same.
