Mikey

Mikey is a familiar English form of Michael, the Hebrew name traditionally understood as the question Who is like God? The question expresses reverence rather than claiming that a person resembles God. Mikey takes the established short form Mike and adds an affectionate ending, giving it a recognizable place within the Michael family.

Michael's importance in Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions gives the wider name a substantial religious history. Mikey can be used alongside the longer name or chosen independently, and families sometimes extend it to feminine Michael-related names as well. Its everyday familiarity comes from nickname use, while the meaning remains inherited from the older Hebrew name rather than from the English ending.
