Milano

Milano is the Italian name of Milan, the city in northern Italy known for its place in art, design, and commerce. As a personal name, it is a direct geographical choice. It also appears as a surname associated with the city, allowing some families to carry an inherited name into the first-name position.

Milan is the English form of the same place name, while Milano keeps the Italian ending and a longer rhythm. The separate Slavic personal name Milan has another history, so the city connection should be made explicit when explaining this choice. Milano can remember a family connection with Italy, a meaningful journey, or a place that forms part of a family's story.
