Mirabel

Mirabel comes from the Latin word mirabilis, associated with something wonderful or worthy of admiration. It was used as a personal name in medieval Europe, giving it a history much older than its familiar modern screen appearance. Mirabelle and Mirabella belong to the same family, each retaining the central idea of wonder.

Disney's Encanto brought this exact spelling to a new audience through its heroine Mirabel Madrigal. The character provides a contemporary storytelling connection, while the older name stands independently of the film. Mira and Belle are possible short forms. The French word mirabelle also names a kind of plum, but that botanical association should be distinguished from the personal name's Latin meaning.
