Nicolle

Nicolle is a spelling of Nicole, the French feminine form of Nicholas. The Greek name behind the family combines words for victory and people. Its meaning is usually expressed as victory of the people, giving Nicolle the same linguistic foundation as its single-l counterpart rather than a new interpretation created by the extra letter.

Nicole, Nicolas, and Nicholas show how the same root moves between feminine and masculine forms and between languages. Nicolle can preserve a particular family spelling within that wider group. The double l is a detail worth keeping consistent in records, but it does not require a different origin story. The name's substantial history lies in the Greek compound and the French form through which it reached wider use.
