Robbie

Robbie is a familiar form of Robert and Roberta, names built from Germanic elements referring to fame and brightness. It preserves the opening Rob and adds an affectionate ending, allowing the same short form to work across the two longer names. Robbie can also be chosen as the complete given name rather than only as an everyday nickname.

Singer Robbie Williams, actor Robbie Coltrane, and musician Robbie Robertson give the spelling several recognizable cultural associations. Those bearers are separate from the surname use seen in names such as Margot Robbie. For families honoring a Robert or Roberta, the first-name form offers a direct relationship while giving a child a shorter official name if that is the preferred family style.
