Roberta

Roberta is a feminine form of Robert, an older Germanic name combining fame with brightness. The usual translation bright fame describes those two elements together. Its final a creates a form used in several languages, including English and Italian, while Robbie, Bobbie, and Bertie offer different ways to shorten it.

Singer Roberta Flack gives the name a memorable musical association. It also belongs to the birth name of Joni Mitchell, who was born Roberta Joan Anderson. Those two stories show how a formal name can remain central to a public identity or become part of a more private history. For families honoring a Robert, Roberta preserves the connection clearly.
