Robin

Robin began as a familiar form of Robert, a Germanic name traditionally interpreted as “bright fame.” It also became closely associated with the robin bird, giving the modern name a clear nature connection. The personal-name history and the bird association can both matter, even when a family chooses Robin as a complete given name.

Robin Hood, Christopher Robin, and actor Robin Williams show the name’s broad cultural reach. Robyn is a close spelling alternative. Robin is used for boys and girls, and its two-syllable shape works without an additional nickname. Families honoring a Robert can retain that link while choosing a name with a distinct everyday identity.
