Sora

Sora is a Japanese name that can be written with characters meaning “sky,” including 空. As with many Japanese names, the chosen characters matter: other written forms can produce the same reading with different nuances. The sky meaning is therefore a well-established option, rather than a translation guaranteed by the Latin-letter spelling alone.

The name is used for both boys and girls in Japanese naming. Its four-letter English form keeps the sound brief while leaving room for a more specific written meaning in Japanese. For families drawn to expansive natural imagery, Sora offers a connection to the sky through an actual Japanese word and name, with the kanji providing an important part of the final choice.
