Sorin

Sorin is a Romanian name usually associated with soare, the Romanian word for sun. The precise formation is not completely certain, so the solar explanation is best presented as a likely connection rather than an unquestioned literal translation. Its Romanian setting is clearer and distinguishes it from Scandinavian Soren, which belongs to a different name family.

The resemblance between Sorin and Soren can make them useful to compare by sound, but they should not be treated as interchangeable spellings. A family choosing Sorin for Romanian heritage may therefore want to keep the i deliberately. The name offers a compact form with a warm possible meaning, while allowing honest room for uncertainty about its earliest derivation.
