Susie

Susie developed as an affectionate form of Susan or Susannah, names with a Hebrew root traditionally translated as lily. Susan became especially familiar in English-speaking countries, and Susie followed it both as an everyday nickname and as a name recorded independently. Its meaning belongs to that older floral name family.

Susannah appears in religious tradition, including the story preserved in some versions of the Book of Daniel. The much shorter Susie carries the connection without requiring a longer formal name in daily life. Suzie and Suzy are close alternative spellings, while Susan and Susannah make different choices for a full-name pairing. For families honoring a Susan, Susie offers a direct and recognizable link across generations.
