Zacharias

Zacharias is a Greek form of a Hebrew name meaning “the Lord has remembered.” The final -s reflects the name's passage through Greek rather than an extra element in the Hebrew meaning. It belongs to the same family as Zachariah, Zechariah, and the shorter English form Zachary.

In the New Testament, Zacharias is the husband of Elizabeth and the father of John the Baptist. That particular story gives the name a clear biblical identity, distinct from other figures with related names elsewhere in scripture. Zack is an established everyday shortening, allowing the longer form and a compact nickname to coexist. Families choosing Zacharias may value its connection with the Greek biblical tradition or its fuller ending while retaining a familiar sound at the beginning.
