Zakaria

Zakaria is a form in the Zechariah name family, whose Hebrew meaning is traditionally expressed as “Yahweh has remembered.” The name is used widely in Muslim communities through the Arabic tradition, rather than belonging only to Hebrew-language naming. Different spellings reflect how the name is carried between scripts and languages.

Zakariya is the Quranic prophet associated with Yahya, corresponding to the New Testament figures Zechariah and John the Baptist. That relationship gives the name a recognizable place in both Islamic and Christian tradition without making their narratives identical in every detail. Zakariya and Zakariyya are close transliteration comparisons, while Zechariah shows the familiar English biblical form of the same older name family.
