Echo

Echo is a Greek name and an English word for sound that returns after reflecting from a surface. In Greek mythology, Echo is a nymph whose voice survives even after her physical presence fades. Her story is connected with Narcissus, making the name part of one of the best-known classical accounts of longing and unanswered love.

The natural phenomenon gives Echo a second, immediate connection beyond the myth: it evokes caves, mountains, and spaces where a voice can be heard again. That combination of a simple word and a substantial story makes it recognizable without being a shortened form of another name. It has been used for both girls and boys in modern naming.
