Faigy

Faigy is a Yiddish form associated with Faigel, a name meaning “bird.” Its use is particularly connected with Jewish naming traditions, including Hasidic communities. The bird meaning belongs to the older name family, while Faigy gives that family a familiar diminutive form.

For parents considering it as an honor name, the exact family spelling and pronunciation may be central to the choice. Faigel provides the closest longer comparison, but Faigy can also be used as the full everyday name. It is more useful to understand that linguistic and family context than to describe the name as an unusual English invention merely because its spelling is less familiar outside its communities.
