Golda

Golda is a Yiddish name drawn from the word for gold. Its meaning belongs to the long tradition of giving children names associated with precious materials, suggesting something treasured without requiring a more elaborate translation. Goldie is a familiar affectionate form, while Golde represents another spelling within the same name family.

One of its most widely recognized bearers is Golda Meir, who served as Israel's fourth prime minister. That historical association gives Golda a public identity beyond its warm metallic meaning. The full form and the nickname also have noticeably different styles: Golda feels more formal and rooted in its language, while Goldie brings the same image into an openly affectionate everyday form.
