Jacquelyn

Jacquelyn is a spelling of Jacqueline, the feminine form of French Jacques. Jacques belongs to the same name family as James and Jacob, tracing back to Hebrew Ya'aqov. The traditional interpretation “supplanter” comes from the biblical Jacob story, while the older explanation also involves the image of grasping a heel. Jacquelyn carries that long family history through a distinctly English-looking -lyn ending.

Jackie, Jacqui, and Lynn offer different ways to shorten the full name. The first two preserve its opening sound; Lynn draws on the ending. Jacquelyn can therefore work as a formal family name with several everyday options. Its spelling is close to Jacqueline but not interchangeable on documents, making it worth choosing the version that best reflects a particular relative or the family's own preference.
