Kiyomi

Kiyomi is a Japanese name whose meaning depends on the characters chosen to write it. One established interpretation combines purity with beauty, but other character combinations can produce different meanings. The English-letter spelling records the sound and cannot, by itself, establish which written form a family intends.

Kiyomi is also the name of a Japanese citrus variety, a separate association from an individual’s personal-name characters. Kyomi is a modern spelling comparison, though omitting the i can make the intended syllables less obvious to English readers. Keeping the original Japanese writing with family records preserves information that the transliteration alone cannot carry.
