Kristine

Kristine is an established form of Christina or Christine, especially familiar in Scandinavian languages. The name ultimately comes from a Latin word for a Christian, making “follower of Christ” its conventional explanation. Its k spelling reflects language history and usage rather than necessarily being a modern substitution for an English c.

The form also occurs in German, English, and Georgian contexts, with pronunciation following the language of the bearer. Christine and Kristina are close relatives, while Kris and Kristy provide familiar short forms. For families comparing these choices, the underlying meaning remains much the same; the spelling and ending can instead reflect relatives, heritage, or the language used at home. Kristine’s Scandinavian identity is one established part of that broader Christian name family.
