Yousif

Yousif is a Latin-letter spelling of an Arabic form of Joseph. The older Hebrew name is traditionally understood as God will add, and its story is familiar in more than one religious tradition. In the Quran, Yusuf is a prophet whose experiences form the central narrative of the chapter bearing his name.

The spellings Yusuf, Yousef, and Yousif reflect different ways of representing the name in English letters and different spoken traditions. They should not be treated as separate ancient names with unrelated meanings. For a family honoring a Joseph, Yousif can preserve the wider name connection while expressing an Arabic cultural or linguistic identity. Its history offers a natural bridge between familiar biblical and Quranic forms without suggesting that every bearer shares the same beliefs.
