Zohan

Zohan is especially recognizable as the name of the central character in the comedy film You Don’t Mess with the Zohan. That gives the modern name a clear popular-culture association. A connection with the Hebrew name Zohar, meaning radiance, is sometimes proposed, but it should not be presented as an established derivation of Zohan itself.

The name’s initial Z and two-syllable shape make it easy to distinguish on the page, yet the film reference may be more immediate to many readers than a linguistic meaning. A family can choose the name for its sound or a personal reason without adopting that fictional character as a namesake. Its historical origin remains less certain than its modern cultural use.
