Amauri

Amauri belongs to the Amaury and Amalric name family. Its older Germanic elements are associated with work or vigor and rule or power. The name traveled through medieval European naming traditions before developing the forms used in languages such as French and Portuguese.

Amaury is the familiar French form, while Amauri is established in Portuguese-speaking contexts. Footballer Amauri Carvalho de Oliveira, born in Brazil and later an Italian international, provides a recognizable bearer of this exact spelling. The name’s long history is separate from a modern attempt to blend the names Amari and another ending. Its meaning is best understood through the older compound elements, without assuming that a child will become a leader or share a particular temperament.
