Nuria

Nuria is closely associated with Catalan Núria, the name of a valley and sanctuary in the Pyrenees. As a given name, it developed through devotion to Our Lady of Núria, a Marian title linked with that place. Its clearest established meaning is therefore geographical: the name points to Núria and its religious tradition.

The deeper origin of the place name is less certain, so a single literal translation should be treated cautiously. Similar-looking names built from Arabic nur, meaning light, have a separate linguistic background. A family choosing Nuria may be drawn to Catalan heritage, the mountain setting, or the Marian association. The accented spelling Núria makes the Catalan form explicit, while Nuria is often easier to use in systems that omit accents.
